If you run a wedding or event furniture rental business, have you seen this:
• Are piles of wooden chairs no longer rentable before you know it?
• Have some wooden bars and dining tables even started to crack and peel within two years?
The good news is: most of these problems stem from a single decision-choosing the right wood from the outset. Many rental companies and event planners focus on appearance and price.
They often overlook a key point: wood that looks similar can perform very differently during real rental use.

Below is a clear breakdown of the four most common woods used in wedding and event furniture. It explains what each wood is best for and what to avoid. This helps you make informed purchases and protect your profit margin.
1. American Oak - The Best Choice for Mid-to High-End Events
American Oak is recognized as a high-quality wood in event furniture.
Why rental companies choose it?
·Hard and durable: Resistant to dents and warping during transport, though its dense texture limits complex curved designs.
·Rich natural grain: When brushed, it visually conforms to the tone required for mid-to-upper range events.
·Long-lasting: The price is higher, but American oak can last 5 years or more with frequent rentals. Other woods can show wear in just 2 years.

If your business handles high-end weddings, corporate banquets, or brand events, American oak is a smart investment. Clients value its texture and durability.
Maxwell standard
We use northern American oak for wedding chairs, bar stools, and sofa frames. These pieces face heavy use and frequent handling, ensuring long-term strength and wear resistance.
2. Chinese Oak - A High-Value Choice for Bulk Orders
Many suppliers label rubberwood as "Chinese oak." It's popular because it offers a good balance between cost and performance.
Why Chinese Oak works for rental Business?
·Lightweight with moderate strength: Ideal for wedding tables, coffee tables, and side tables, though not as hard as American oak.
·Versatile for finishes: Suitable for a variety of surface treatment processes, including wire drawing and polishing.
·Cost-effective: Perfect for bulk rentals, though lifespan is shorter-surfaces may show wear after frequent use.
Maxwell standard
We use only the core of rubberwood trees. Our tables and other furniture are harder and have fewer knots than many competitors. This makes each finished piece more attractive.
3. Beech - Premium Choice for Unique Shapes
Beech is special: similar in quality to American oak, but easier to bend into custom shapes.
What's the feature of beech wood?
·Uniform, smooth texture: Great for large curves, such as minimalist curved chair backs or rounded bar seats.
·Surface limits: Not ideal for brushed finishes; scratches are more noticeable.
·Reddish hue: Staining can result in slight color variations.
If your goal is unique or natural-wood wedding furniture designs, beech is ideal. Some designs are difficult with American oak or Chinese oak but feasible with beech.
4. Ash - A Budget-Friendly Alternative to American Oak
Ash closely matches American oak in hardness and texture but comes at a friendlier price.
Why is Ash a second choice?
·Hard & durable: Furniture made from this wood is easy to clean and has a long service life.
·Bold, natural grain: The overall look is modern and natural.
·Great finish adhesion: Accepts paint and wax well, making it easy to achieve the desired finish.
·Flexible for finishes: While American oak cannot be smoothed, ash can accommodate both smooth and brushed finishes.

Woods We Don't Recommend for Rental Furniture
The above four woods are all solid choices depending on your needs. Two others also look good at first, but may cause some issues when used in the rental business.
·Toon wood
Can mimic American oak visually, but often harbors insect eggs, leading to infestation.
·Elm
Has a vintage look and flexibility, but is prone to moisture and less stable.
We don't want to take those risks with materials. We make sure the wedding furniture we sell can stand up to time-and to real on-site use.
Wood Construction Tips
To help evaluate durability, here's a quick guide to common wood construction methods:
·Solid Wood Craftsmanship
High-quality feel but prone to cracking; sensitive to environment.
·Particleboard or MDF
Low cost, lower quality; swells when wet, screws loosen easily.
·Plywood + real wood veneer (recommended)
We use 1.2cm thick plywood with 3mm real wood veneer. Maintains strength, stability, and moisture resistance-ideal for table tops and sofa frames.
Wood Finishing Process
Wedding furniture is painted not just for color but also for protection. Compared to a single coat, Maxwell applies three layers of paint: primer, midcoat, and topcoat. In addition, we add an extra layer of clear varnish to protect against water stains.
Choose the Right Wood to Keep Your Rentals Lasting
Why do some furniture pieces last for years while others fail quickly? The answer is wood selection. The right wood affects not only appearance but also inventory turnover, client satisfaction, and long-term profits.
