High Hopes, Hard Fall

 

Ten years ago, I started my first job in the wedding furniture industry right after university. A year later, I founded Maxwell Furniture. In the beginning, we were very small – just a few workers, and I was the only salesperson.

Back then, there were few suppliers in the wedding and event furniture market. We found success by bringing stylish residential furniture designs into this space. Many clients loved our products, and we secured numerous orders. One particular design, developed for Revelry Event Designers in Los Angeles, became so popular that many clients sought us out specifically for our wedding furniture. However, the market grew slowly, and so did we.

Everything changed after 2018. In 2018 and 2019, business was exceptionally strong. We expanded our production capacity to keep up. Then came 2020 – the epidemic pandemic forced us to close both our office and factory completely. With no orders coming in, I faced the toughest setback of my entrepreneurial journey.

By the end of 2021, the US market began to recover, and we re-entered the wedding and event furniture industry. Maxwell Furniture experienced explosive growth, and the company progressed rapidly. Yet, amidst this flourishing period, challenges surfaced: delivery delays, management disarray, and quality complaints.

A pivotal moment came when a rental company in Miami, Florida, provided feedback about product quality issues. I flew immediately to their warehouse to understand the problems firsthand. The owner and the warehouse manager offered invaluable suggestions and insights. That visit made me realize something profound: this industry isn't just our business – it's our life's work. The quality of our products is critical to their business and livelihood.

Returning home, I committed to addressing every problem methodically. We upgraded our wood materials, improved production processes, enhanced our craftsmanship, and significantly improved many components. Our focus became clear: create products that are stronger, more durable, easier to transport, and more storage-efficient.

 

Guided by this product philosophy, we continuously optimized, striving to meet our clients' demands for superior quality, competitive cost, and reliable delivery times, and we've achieved significant success.


Boots on the Ground, Eyes on Their Needs


To deepen our commitment to the wedding and event furniture profession, I embarked on a global journey to visit clients. From South America to Puerto Rico and Costa Rica; from Mexico to Canada; from the East Coast (New York) to the West Coast (San Francisco); from the South (Dallas) to the North (Cleveland). I also traveled across the Middle East: UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Oman, Kuwait, and Jordan. And to my surprise, I even visited clients in Africa – Botswana and Kenya.

Fueled by a renewed passion, I sought to understand how our products performed in real-world use, gathered design inspiration and craft improvement suggestions, and developed a profound respect for the industry. Interacting with owners of rental and wedding companies gave me a deeper understanding of this business.

In Mexico, I watched chairs surrender to salt's slow siege; in Miami, I saw rentals bloom into a thriving trade. In Botswana, I saw our own pieces standing their ground; in Dubai, I learned how future designs could rise even higher

Back home, we overhauled everything based on these insights and client needs: our products, company management, organizational structure, and service processes – spanning design, sales, quality control, and production. Our mission became: to be a professional, reliable, and innovative manufacturer of wedding and event furniture.

This year, we continue our journey of improvement and optimization. We've moved into a larger factory, added new production lines, and made significant strides forward.


For the past decade, we've dedicated ourselves to this industry. For the next decade, my team and I remain committed to becoming your premier partner.
